I was pleasantly surprised when I bought this ebook on amazon. It starts off slow as the characters are introduced but it quickly ramps up the action. Samantha is my favorite protagonist. She is the most mysterious and therefore the most interesting to me. There could have been more focus on her but I get the sense that it is being set up for the next book. Besides, the other characters are pretty interesting in their own right.The writer did a good job of shifting points of view on the characters. Never been a fan of that technique but in this book, it actually works. It makes the story feel like an ensemble and less focused on any one individual. The dialogue was smart and intelligent. I liked the action and the explanation of the characters' special abilities. The action scenes were believable. I thought it was interesting that as the characters change, their powers evolve. I like how the fantastic places and scenes were carefully fleshed out. I felt like I was in every one of them. In its quiet moments, the book tackles issues of faith in a way that doesn't beat you over the head. Before this, I didn't think that faith and fiction even mixed. Maybe, I was so invested in the mythology of the story that I didn't care. Whatever your preference or genre, this was a thoughtfully crafted adventure and it left me wanting more - simply a literary gem. I know Champions has to be the first book in a series and I can't wait for the next book. I finished this in a couple of days and have already purchased copies for a couple of my friends. Get this if you like well written sci fantasy and adventure for adults, young and old.

Champions of the Eternal Flame is a great young adult novel; a perfect gift for the sporty early adolescent you are encouraging to read more.
This offering by Mr. Ajayi is an outstanding prequel to his upcoming work. The meticulous time taken to enlighten the reader into the past lives & internal struggles of the book's characters, especially Samantha & Tumaini. Part of me looks forward to an equally intrusive glance into the other Champions. The generally cryptic, yet spiritually hopeful nature of Priest's words towards the Champions maintained my curiosity throughout the book, and it allowed be to remain cognizant about the overarching theme of Christ's overwhelming glory, which was referenced in multiple places in the text. I LOVED the fact that these heroes actually USED their superpowers with decent consistency, rather than bottle them up in some useless quest to understand them first (or something like that. The thorough descriptiveness of the action kept me on my toes, wonder what was next. All in all, it's a strong start to a potentially groundbreaking series in faith-based fiction. It's an absolute MUST-BUY BOOK!
Very good story; started out a little slow and a little to wordy, but is still was able to catch my attention.
I can't wait to see what happens next to Samantha, Sara, Jana, Alex and Tumaini. I also hope something more develops between Samantha and Tumaini.
There is just so much to love about this book. Obviously, this book's primary audience is the teenage crowd that is coming into their own, trying to figure out who they are and where they fit into the whole scheme of things. But, what I've often found out is that you can derive great pleasure as well as lessons from reading material that appeals to a younger audience. This book is obviously one that fits into this category. Tayo Ajayi tells the story of four teenagers who have super human powers and they have to come into their own and save the world in the process. These teenagers are Samantha Ross who is athletic, smart and with a memory to die for. South African Tumaini, who is an orphan but with the ability to dream dreams and see beyond. Latina Jana who is a product of a drug addict father and an abused mother who has the ability to seem invisible and to get into areas that most can't and one of the manning twins that can move from one portal to the other though disabled. Now, the question is what do they all have in common? These are teenagers who in the world's estimation are nothing because of their difference and weirdness but what is considered different about them is actually what marks them as powerful and very useful in fighting and winning against evil. This is a very important message. Beyond the great messages that this book unfolds, another of its core strength is its ability to merge Christian messages and Sci Fi. Many have wondered if that merge could ever occur and yes it has. For those who follow the Christian religion, many of the sayings and themes will seem very familiar. If you do not, many of the ideas are very reassuring.

Where do I begin?! I LOVED this book for so many reasons. One being the Sci-Fi element, as I am very into that genre of movies/books. The action in this novel is just so alluring and fascinating. I really admired how the author was able to strategically paint a picture in my mind of the surreal happenings occurring throughout the novel. But more importantly I loved how it really acts a faith-enhancer. The "seemingly" impossible occurrences in the book can truly either show you or remind you that with God NOTHING is impossible. The different characters within the novel had extraordinary gifts and together those gifts fought for the greater good and I personally feel that's much like how it is in reality. Meaning, ALL of us here have God-given gifts that are to be used to make a change, a better change, in the world around us. Furthermore, if we come together using our gifts it would create a greater impact. Kind of reminds of words I once read that asked, "Am I my brother's keeper?" Yes, you are! This book does a phenomenal job at show-casing that. I can go on and on, but I don't want to leak too much of it's juiciness, lol..just BUY the book for yourself, for your friends, and for your family! It's a must have and you will NOT regret it.
